The Journey Begins

Hi Everybody, this is my first time ever blogging so no guarantees :) During this summer I have been trying to expand my recipe repertoire from spaghetti and Ramen. I had been having a difficult time coming up with ideas until I gave in and got this wonderful thing known as a Pinterest account! Soon all of these wonderful recipes were calling me to make them and I was only too happy to respond. This blog will mainly focus on the different recipes that I have been trying although other accomplishments such as sewing projects may find their way into this blog.

Today was an extremely busy work day so when I found myself home with some afternoon left I was very excited. With the parents and younger sister still at work, it was a perfect time to try some different recipes as I now had full control of the kitchen ;) The main entree if you will, was a salad bar that was extremely refreshing on this hot summer day! Next, I needed some side dishes to accompany the salad. This need sent me to my Pinterest board in the hopes of finding an alternative to the basic baked potato. What I came across was the hasselback potato which ended up being a delicious choice. Who knew that some simple cuts across the potato and a stick of butter would change the flavor so much :) The key to getting the cuts right is to use a wooden spoon. I found this tip online and it actually worked perfectly! After the potato conundrum had been solved, it was on to a bread product to go with the salads.

Once again Pinterest came in handy as a picture of garlic-cheddar biscuits made my mouth water so that was obviously going to be my choice. The recipe itself was very simple, the problem was that it called for Bisquick which was no where to be found in our pantry. Since I didn't want to abandon the recipe, I went back to the internet (seriously, what did we do before the internet?)  in search of substitutions. After locating an article showing me how to make my own Bisquick, it was back to the kitchen to try it out. The finished product may not have been as good as Red Lobsters and I need to figure out how to make them more moist (maybe using actual Bisquick might help :)) but I think they turned out better than I expected. I will definitely be trying these again. Enjoy these pictures of today's journey in the kitchen along with some stuffed bell peppers that I made a few weeks ago.
